Principal

Dr. Veronica Garza is excited to serve as the principal of Carroll Elementary School in Sheldon ISD. She is passionate about working with students, and she has made a personal commitment to put students first in every decision she makes as a campus leader. Dr. Garza has approximately 20 years of educational experience that have helped shape her into the leader that she is today.

Dr. Garza has worked as a classroom teacher, a campus instructional coach, a lead teacher, and an assistant principal, all in Galena Park ISD. In each of these roles, she has worked alongside great mentors, both at the campus and district level, who have provided her with a plethora of leadership opportunities that have helped her develop the skills that are required to lead a campus effectively. 

Dr. Garza has made a commitment to grow as a leader, and she has made education a priority in order to build her capacity as a campus principal. She has her doctorate in educational leadership with a specialization in superintendency from University of Houston - Clear Lake, a master’s degree in educational administration from Lamar University, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas A&M University. 

It has been Dr. Garza’s dream to serve as a campus principal, and she is excited to work with the stakeholders of Carroll Elementary to help all students succeed. “I am eager to begin serving the Carroll Elementary and Sheldon ISD community,” said Dr. Garza. “In partnership with our families and staff, I look forward to continuing the success that the school has already achieved as we set our sights on what’s best for students. That said, I am prepared to fulfill my calling and work alongside the community and staff of Carroll Elementary in order for students to feel safe, develop positive character traits, and reach their maximum potential academically!”

Assistant Principal

Mr. Christopher Carter is a passionate educator who is the Assistant Principal at Carroll Elementary. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Carter relocated to Houston, Texas in 2018, driven by his desire to make a positive impact on the lives of students in a diverse and dynamic educational environment.

Mr. Carter's educational journey began at Bowling Green State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with a specialization in English Language Arts for grades 7-12. Driven by his passion for leadership and a desire to effect systemic change, Mr. Carter pursued a Master of Arts in Education with a specialization in Educational Leadership at Ball State University. This advanced degree provided him with a deep understanding of educational administration and equipped him with the skills necessary to foster a positive school culture, promote effective instructional practices, and support the professional growth of his colleagues. Continuing his dedication to personal and professional growth, Mr. Carter is currently a 2nd year doctoral student in the Educational Leadership program at Ball State University. Through his doctoral studies, he is expanding his knowledge and expertise in educational leadership and exploring innovative approaches to school improvement.

Over the past five years, Mr. Carter has served with distinction in Galena Park Independent School District (ISD). His roles have included English teacher, academic teacher leader, and new teacher mentor. Outside of his professional endeavors, Mr. Carter is an active member of the Houston arts community, serving as the Founder and Artistic Director of Voices of Houston, a choral ensemble dedicated to preserving the performance and practice of the Negro Spiritual. 

As a servant leader, Mr. Carter is dedicated to utilizing his skills and talents to ensure that students have the opportunity to make their dreams come true. He believes in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. With his strong background in educational leadership, his commitment to professional growth, and his passion for making a difference, Mr. Christopher Carter is honored to serve as the assistant principal at Carroll Elementary.
